The visitors who buy 80% more often than Google’s

Welcome back to this week’s Side Income Roundup, Monday, August 17.

Shopify just published numbers on where AI traffic actually lands, and it isn’t your homepage. There’s also a Google Ads switch flipping on September 1 whether you touch it or not.

Let’s get into it.

THIS WEEK’S BIG IDEA

📢 AI and organic search are doing different jobs

Shopify’s Q2 data has AI-referred sessions up 197% year over year, while organic grew 12% on a far bigger base, so neither one is eating the other. Half of those AI visitors land straight on a product page, skipping the homepage and the category browse.

And they convert about 80% better than organic visitors once they get there, roughly twice as well in spec-heavy categories.

Our Take: Rewrite your five best sellers’ product pages to answer what buyers compare on: size, fit, compatibility. AI lands people there cold.

TOOLS OF THE WEEK

🛠 WooCommerce 11.0
The free update adds a Checkout Recovery beta that emails people who abandon at checkout. It also stops counting bot sessions, so your conversion rate gets honest.

🔍 Cloudflare Agent Readiness Diagnostics
A free scan that tells you whether AI tools can actually read your site properly, grades what it finds, and lists the fixes in the order worth doing them.

Our Take: On WooCommerce, switch Checkout Recovery on today. Abandoned carts are money already on the table.

TODAY’S QUICK WINS

Google upgrades broad match campaigns to AI Max on September 1
Any Search campaign using broad match or automatically created assets moves to AI Max for Search on September 1. Switching those legacy settings off yourself, or enabling AI Max deliberately, keeps the timing yours.

Amazon retires the Variation Wizard this month
Adding a new size or color to something you already sell used to mean filling out the whole listing again. Now Amazon hands you a spreadsheet with the existing details already in it, so you only fill in what’s new.

Our Take: Check those two Google Ads settings before September 1, or Google decides for you. Then grab a variation spreadsheet while the old wizard lasts.

📝 The Labor Day Test Run: 3 Things to Fix Before Q4

Most sellers stake Q4 on an offer they’ve never tested. A small holiday-weekend sale shows how it really performs while there’s still time to change it.

Our Take: Run the sale this weekend and write the numbers down before you fund Q4 ads. August is the cheap place to find problems.

AI SPOTLIGHT

🤖 YouTube stops monetizing AI videos built from a template

July’s policy update names repetitive, template-built video as inauthentic content, alongside AI personas covering money and health. Too much of it costs you Partner Program monetization across the whole channel, not just one video.

Our Take: If AI makes your YouTube videos, check your last ten aren’t one template with new words. Your own results are the paid part now.

UNTIL NEXT WEEK…

Here’s your move this week:

✅ Rewrite the product pages on your five best sellers
✅ Switch on WooCommerce Checkout Recovery
✅ Check your Google Ads settings before September 1
✅ Run a small Labor Day sale and write the numbers down

The stores that do well in Q4 usually worked out what was broken in August.
